Candice from Doonside

In 2014, I was commissioned by Welsey Mission to interview Candice, a mother of 3 living in a housing commission neighbourhood out at Doonside in Western Sydney.

Candice had been sexually abused as a child which had a huge effect on her life as a teenager and now a mother. She had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, had been suffering from severe depression, was diagnosed with bipolar, and had an abusive ice addict partner.

I was really affected after interviewing Candice and listening to her story. I felt sorry for her and the children living out at Doonside in that sort of environment. I reached out to her several times after the interview and offered to take her & the kids to Bondi Beach for the day.... She refused and in the end, I lost contact with her
